Brissago & Lake Maggiore
Brissago is the small well-known village before the border to Italy. Divided into 14 fractions, its territory extends over the entire slope from the lake to the hills.
The lake and the beautiful landscape offer wonderful opportunities for nature-orientated and varied holiday experiences. By the way, the "crooked Brissago cigars" are still made here on the shores of Lake Maggiore.
To the centre of Verscio and Maggia
The centre of Verscio is well known because the famous clown Dimitri lived there. Here you can immerse yourself in the world of theatre, dance, clowns, folly and circus. Besides the "Teatro Dimitri" there is the "Casa del Clown", where you can find specialized literature on these topics in a bookstore, but you can also admire many of Dimitri's private collectors' items. Maggia is located in one of the original Ticino valleys, which can also be explored by bike. You simply have to let your soul dangle, look at the villages with their slate covered houses, pet a donkey at the fence, watch two still happy pigs racing or stop in one of the famous "Grottos".
To the market of Cannobio or Cannero
As Brissago is the southernmost town in Ticino on the western shore of Lake Maggiore, the Italian markets can soon be reached. Cannobio is the first place behind the border and delights tourists with its local food and specialties from all over Italy.
The market in Cannobio takes place on Sundays from 08.00 to 13.00. Cannero's market also relies on genuine local products. At many stands you can also find clothes, socks, lingerie and other items. Here you can always go on Fridays from 8.00 to 12.00.
